The Columbia was launched on Feb. 24, 1880 by John Roach, famous shipbuilder of that period, in his shipyard at Chester, Pennsylvania. ...Continued to ply from San Francisco, Cal. and Portland, Ore. until July 21, 1907, when she collided with the steam schooner(?) 'San Pedro' off [illegible] Cove south of Eureka, California & sank with the [loss?] of more than 70 lives."
