Joe,
an 8th grade teacher at the Green Valley Middle School, & Cathy, from
the Green Valley Historical Society (HS), want to digitize a set of historical
photographs and create descriptions. They approach Janet, the director
of the public library for assistance.
Joe
is planning a unit on local history. In his research, he's found some
wonderful photographs of local families and places in the Historical Society.
Cathy, who's in charge of the photo collection, is eager to have the pictures
used, but is concerned about wear and tear on the prints. Also the Historical
Society has limited hours when it's open to the public.
They
start with three questions:
- Can
they make the photos more available to Joe and his students?
- Can
the HS and the school district collaborate on a digitization project?
- Can
they make use of the knowledge of the library staff to accomplish their
goal?
